Our County Engineer has updated the Old Antioch Road Reconstruction project in the email string below. We’ve about completed the survey and right-of-way acquisition issues and are now dealing with underground infrastructure issues. Apparently, there are underground water and gas lines which must be relocated to accommodate the road construction. We’ve met with water and gas personnel and the lines are simply too shallow to safely reconstruct the road. For this reason, the lines must be relocated prior to the road work.

Since the County is acquiring ROW as part of this project, the utility companies will be able to relocate their lines along the shoulder. Okaloosa Gas has asked that this relocation work take place in March so as not to risk a widespread outage during the winter months. We will time their work with the reconstruction of the roadway so as to limit the inconvenience to motorists. Our plan is to bid the work after the holidays and award in time to have a contractor on site when the gas company is completing their work. We had hoped to begin construction in the fall, but the utility relocation work has pushed our schedule back a few months.

Rest assured though that this project is a high priority for us and we will make every effort to expedite the work as soon as possible. We will continue pressing to minimize further delays and get this much needed project underway.
